Your truest, inner voice…

The best path in life is the one of honesty. What a better way to be honest than starting with ourselves, by giving us the chance to find and pay attention to our inner voice?

How many times have you heard the phrase “listen to your heart” and you know what it means, you’ve felt it before, that inexplicable “gut feeling” called intuition. But have you ever wondered what lies beyond that abstract understanding? Do you know how your voice sounds like, are you aware of its needs and wants?

In artistic fields, finding your inner voice is fundamental for creation. The world needs to know what makes you “you”, what sets you apart and makes you unique, not because you’re a separate entity, but because the world craves for your particular and special input, your unique way of looking back at it and capturing it in a physical piece of art. This is true (speaking about honesty) not only for the arts, but for life itself, because your biggest masterpiece is your own life.

To take a deep dive within ourselves is one of the bravest acts of self-love. This doesn’t mean that the process itself is not scary, intimidating or overwhelming at times, but that a bigger “purpose” is at stake if we are not brave enough to get the job done. The aim is not to criticise our thoughts and feelings, but to appreciate them critically, to pay attention to that part of us where we keep our truth and contemplate it compassionately, intrigued and amazed by the powerful substance that makes us laugh, cry and react. In this journey, we cannot be unauthentic, we need to resist the impulse to over or underplay things and dare to have the most fair and loyal conversation with ourselves.

This is particularly relevant when it comes to acknowledging our flaws and mistakes. Many times, we silence our inner voice out of shame, embarrassment, fear or doubt. This is completely normal, we all have been there, but it is precisely because we all have failed that we get the chance to ask questions, to decide what to do next and learn from the experience. It is because of these milestones that we find out who we are and what we’re made of.

No one said that self-discovery is easy or straightforward, but letting our inner voice get stronger day by day will further our understanding about ourselves. This will help you, not only to differentiate “right” from “wrong”, but to strengthen your decision-making, making you conscious of the things you need to change, improve or keep in order to fulfill your dreams and be the person that you want to be. Who knows? It could even lead you to the mind-blowing realisation that what you want may actually not be what you need.

Remember that knowing yourself is a never-ending process, but that’s the beauty of it. If it did, that would mean that we don’t transition or evolve to different stages and facets of our lives. Listening to your inner voice will give you the purest, most honest insight of who you are, what you aspire to and value. Stand proud, shake cities, stir oceans, inspire and encourage others to thrive in their own authenticity with the echo of your voice.
